Our Companion Service can help you become more socially active, whether that’s over the phone, in your home or out and about in the community. We want to make it possible for you to still enjoy your life and to do the things that mean something to you with the support of a carefully chosen volunteer companion. Hopefully, that’ll make you feel better, maybe more active and even more involved with your local community.
We aim to make your choices possible wherever it is safe to do so. We’ll match you with a trained volunteer who shares your interests or hobbies so you can both enjoy your time together.
The Service is open to older people who are resident in the City or County of Nottinghamshire.
Some people really enjoy a cuppa and a chat at home – we can help with that. Others want to go out and about, maybe to the theatre, a garden centre, a café or a place of special interest. We’ll be happy to consider any and all requests and will do our best to help. We can’t promise we’ll have a volunteer for every activity, but we’ll always try.
Please note, this service is not available outside Age UK Nottingham & Nottinghamshire - Head Office's catchment area.

Mum's Helping Hands of Nottingham are able to offer help with Domestic Cleaning, Commercial Cleaning, Home Help and Domiciliary Care for the elderly or disabled. All care and cleaning tasks undertaken, to offer that extra support.
Domestic Cleaning
Mum's Helping Hands pride themselves on being one of the best domestic cleaning services in the Nottingham area: "Mum's the word."
They provide a variety of domestic cleaning services in Nottingham, the whole package is tailor made to your individual specification. Their services can be daily, weekly, fortnightly and seasonal - we can help. Not only can they help with general cleaning tasks but can also deliver external window cleaning and carpet cleaning.
Carpet Cleaning
Replacing dirty, faded or stained carpets in a home can be an extremely expensive task, and the last thing you’d want to do is spend all that money when it’s not really necessary. Mum’s Helping Hands specialises in carpet cleaning and upholstery cleaning services in Nottingham. Even the most well cared for carpet will still pick up dirt, marks, dust and stains over the years, especially in high traffic areas. Our specialist carpet cleaning equipment brings dirt out from deep within the carpet, meaning the dull, old looking carpet you had no longer needs a costly replacement; we can return it to good condition again. You’d be surprised how much of a visible difference our carpet cleaning can make.
Upholstery Cleaning
Faded or marked furniture can be very difficult to clean with regular household products, but Mum's Helping Hands' upholstery cleaning service can help to remove stains and discolouration that often comes about in furniture with age. They recommend regular treatment to prevent this from ever happening as the longer the material is left, the harder it can be to restore it to its original condition.
Domiciliary Care
Mum’s is CQC registered and provides home care and companionship in Nottingham for those who would struggle without an extra pair of hands. This could involve doing shopping, collecting prescriptions, driving and escorting to appointments, making meals, being there as someone to chat and spend time with, or any kind of general help around the home.
Their staff are friendly, caring, and willing to tailor their duties to every client in order to assist their day to day living.
Ironing Services
Doing the laundry and ironing is a task that takes up plenty of our time, but is unfortunately very necessary for most people. By the end of the week that laundry basket can look very daunting. Mum’s Helping Hands can take this off your mind and leave you with the time to do things more important to you. In order to do this they offer ironing and laundry services in Nottingham at competitive rates, including a pickup and delivery service.
Pet Sitting and Dog Walking
Mum’s Helping Hands understand how important pets can be to their owners, but in certain situations it can be difficult to care for them exactly how they need it. Dogs are notoriously energetic, and need regular walking, but it can be hard to provide this if you find it hard to get out of the house or are tied down by work. So that you don’t have to worry about them being cooped up in the house all day, they offer a dog walking service to get them the exercise they need. Their pet sitters can also visit your house as often as you like to feed your animals, exercise them, take them for walks, clean out cages, or any basic task you’d normally do to look after them.
Home Protection
Mum’s Helping Hands want you to feel safe in your home. In order for you to see exactly who is entering your property they have teamed up with a supplier to provide and install a camera doorbell which will provide the safety you require. A full demonstration will be provided.
The small device comprises of two parts – one static doorbell which films visitors, and one handheld console which allows users to see all their visitors and either allow or decline their access. This digital system gives clear video pictures on a 2.4” colour screen, as well as having the ability for night vision – you can see whoever is at your door at whatever time they call. The doorbell is water resistant and takes pictures of the last 20 visitors so you will even know who has called whilst you are out. The indoor unit is easy to recharge, so you can have it handy all the time.
The installation process includes:
Mum’s Helping Hands will take the time to walk you through the entire functionality of the doorbell, making sure that you are completely comfortable using it.
